About Focus Groups
In case you have questions before you sign up, here's some background on becoming a
potential participant. Just click on each question for more information!
-
What are focus groups?
A Focus Group is a small group of pre-screened participants,
typically 8 to 12 in number, who come together in an informal setting with a
moderator or group leader to share their ideas, attitudes and opinions about a
topic of interest. Often a few company representatives may view or listen
to the discussions on audio or video tape, watch from another location in the
facility, or possibly view the session in another part of the country.
This information provides valuable input to companies and other organizations
in designing products, services, new marketing approaches and any number of
concepts for which consumer input is beneficial.
-
Why do we need information on you and your household?
Companies seeking consumer input are very specific about the
profile of the participants they want invited to discuss their topic. We
use your demographic information to determine which focus groups are best
suited for you.
-
What should I expect after I sign up?
Occasionally you may get a call from one of our recruiters
asking if you would like to be part of a focus group. The recruiter may
have to ask you some additional questions to determine if your background fits
the topic or you have interest in the topic. You will be asked to spend
about one or two hours at our Raleigh facility listening and talking about a
product, service, concept, or issue. Focus Groups are held during the
day, in the evenings, and periodically on Saturdays. You are never
obligated to participate, and may decline the invitation for any reason.
-
How am I compensated? Why should I participate?
You will always be paid in cash for your time
and feedback at the end of the session. Focus Group discussions typically
last from one to two hours and participants are paid from $50 per session and upwards,
depending upon the time and complexity of the study.
Some participants sign up because it is a good way to make some extra money for
a small investment of their time, while others enjoy the ability to help shape
new products and services they might use.
-
How confidential is my information?
The information provided through the respondent form is
submitted over a secure web site and is captured directly into our confidential
database of potential participants. That information is used only to
screen for individuals who best fit the focus group requirement. For
example, a company may say they'd like opinions from married females, aged
30-35 with children and with a household income less than $25,000 per
year. Your information will never be sold or used for any purpose except
screening to match participants to specific focus group studies.
